Borbála Nagy

Borbála was born and raised in a family of dancers in Hungary. After having studied Movie Sciences and worked as a journalist in Budapest, in 2011 she moved to Germany. There she started her film directing studies at the German Film & TV Academy Berlin (DFFB). Since then her shorts have been shown at international festivals worldwide. Her latest work, LAND OF GLORY (2020) , won both the German Short Film Award and the Hungarian Film Critics’ Prize, and was then broadcasted on HBO and MDR.

Borbála is an alumna of the Cannes Cinéfondation Residence (2021-2022), Berlinale Talents (2020) and Talents Sarajevo (2017). Her first feature, MAMBO MATERNICA is a co-production between Hungary, France and Germany. The debut offers a subtle yet sharp exploration of women’s maternal choices in societies with traditional gender roles.
