Bitte Leben

fiction feature in development, Sweden / Germany

Synopsis

In the heart of Berlin, Ava (30) and her boyfriend Jimmy (in his late 30s) dream of building a life together. Their plan seems simple: take over Jimmy’s mother Marlene’s (in her late 60s) apartment as she prepares to move to the countryside. But what begins as an exciting step forward soon becomes a suffocating entanglement. Marlene, clinging to her son and her control over their shared world, refuses to leave, anchoring herself in the apartment – and in their lives. Ava struggles to assert herself in the face of Marlene’s quiet dominance. Jimmy, caught between his love for Ava and his loyalty to his mother, begins to drift, leaving Ava to fend for herself in an increasingly hostile environment. As tensions rise Ava must decide: is she willing to sacrifice her love for Jimmy to reclaim her independence, or will she continue to fight for a relationship that risks suffocating her individuality?
